Family Account

Family lets you create and manage self-custodial wallets using just your email or phone number, along with a passkey or password. Family accounts are a proprietary self-custody system, allowing you to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) while serving as a secure backup method for your wallets.

How Family Account works

When you create a Family account, your device generates a new Hierarchical Deterministic (HD) wallet with a 12-word seed phrase. A master key is then derived, which is cryptographically bound to your email or phone number and your chosen passkey or password. This master key is used to encrypt your wallet, creating an encrypted wallet that only you can decrypt.

Security measures

Your master key is secured using industry-standard encryption methods to ensure the highest level of protection. Only the encrypted wallet is transmitted and stored—your seed phrase and passkey are never shared or exposed. Decryption is only possible using your credentials, which are known only to you. To enhance security, additional safeguards such as device proof of possession and two-factor authentication (2FA) are implemented, requiring access to your email or phone number and knowledge of your passkey or password.
